Regardless of the act itself, which is horrific, it is striking to observe what is happening in Japan. The antisemitic and nationalist far right is gaining votes in elections, Prime Minister Shinzo Abe pretends nothing is happening in the face of similar acts, and in return... he goes on an official visit to the Yasukuni Shrine, where Second World War criminals are buried.

The specter of saying goodbye to the 1945 pacifist Constitution and the country's rearmament seems to be approaching (perhaps complicit with Beijing's military investments). One wonders about the charm that neo-Nazism once again exerts on a nation that paid for its alliance with Hitler's Germany with atomic tragedy.
