Back then, however, most of that audience (young men and women) barely knew Cage's name, but they at least had the curiosity to go and hear him and, apparently, to stay and listen until the end, perhaps after booing him (as Cage himself hoped).

Nowadays, the event – the show, the happening – would simply be deserted; in fact, it wouldn't exist at all.

Actually, at Milano Musica 2007 for Cage Arditti Freeman Etudes, there were only a handful of people (noted critics) ... one was sleeping and the other was huffing.
