Hello everyone,
i wanted to know the various types of glues (and the respective gluing procedures) that can be used to apply Ivory, Plastic, or Ivory veneers to "naked" keys.
In particular, I have an "old" Blüthner from the late 1800s which for generations has been kept only for the beauty of its cabinet, but it has ivory coverings on 8 keys that have come off...
In general, it would be useful to know which glues to use for every little eventuality!

As far as ivory is concerned, cold glues must be used. It is a somewhat delicate procedure because the small plates that are to be glued must be leveled with special individual clamps for each key. Sometimes the wood must be prepared with special white cloths so that the color of the wood does not show through the ivory.
For plastic, resin and ABS, transparent contact glue can be used
. . .if you choose to use contact cement to glue the plastic coverings,
it is advisable to purchase the industrial type, because "inferior" brands tend to dry out and become brittle over the years.
