does anyone know what the "lin" button is on a microphone? I bought a used AKG C3000b Mic that has this button, but I don't know exactly what it does.
I have only noticed that if it is active, the voice sounds richer in bass and darker, whereas if I turn off this function, the voice is clearer and sharper.
Additionally, there is the possibility to set it to 0db or -10db, but I don't know what that means and I don't know which is the right setting to use.
It is the high-pass filter. It serves to remove the proximity effect that occurs when getting too close to the microphone capsule with your mouth, which increases low frequencies.
The 0 -10db selector, on the other hand, is the PAD. It is used to lower the signal level if you are recording excessively dynamic instruments, such as a drum kick.
