Exactly, I imagined it was a MIDI file with automations; I had even written this to you in my first reply, but you hadn't told me that you were using an external expander, and that is where the snag occurs. In Logic, you can use software in Rewire (which, for those who didn't know, means opening other software and/or components within the main host program); this is allowed, provided that said software are AU (Audio Unit) compatible with Logic. I suspect that Gear Box might not be, and therefore the automations, passing via MIDI, end up affecting parameters that would otherwise do their job... To explain better: within AUs, there is a hierarchy of parameter assignment, meaning a specific MIDI parameter must correspond to a single specific AU address. For example, if we want to modify the spread within "Space Designer," that parameter will have a single standardized MIDI address. Evidently in Gear Box, the MIDI address that should modify the stereo spread instead modifies another parameter; for this reason, the result is quite disappointing (this is an example, I don't know which parameters are actually being modified in your case). One must always keep in mind that Logic does not need any MIDI expander, as it already has an excellent native supply of sampled sounds. If these are not enough, it is possible to add a series of Libraries (the basic Apple ones called Jam Pack) or other professional libraries, some of which are truly apocalyptic in size, so much so that they are sometimes sold bundled with Hard Disks for their use (see, for example, East West Quantum Leap Gold & Platinum). Logic is, after all, always a Music Production software; for this reason, it is useless to use additional hardware machines when it is possible to do everything inside it and with better results. Now, I don't know why you have this need, but normally external MIDI interfacing in Logic is more often used to capture MIDI data coming from a synthesizer or a generic MIDI player via a MIDI port, rather than being used to transmit MIDI externally. Furthermore, just to add insult to injury, I feel compelled to state that the sampled sounds in Logic are better than those contained in any hardware expander on the market. This is demonstrated if we look at the hardware on which each runs. Usually, external expander libraries, at best, do not reach 5 GB, partly because the hardware they run on is not the best, and therefore the quality of the sampled sounds is lightened to allow the machine to remain performant. In fact, one must consider that expanders are designed for live events and not for the studio. Logic, on the other hand, requires much more powerful hardware precisely because it must have the capacity to produce even very high-level music (imagine compositions of 30+ tracks with sampled audio at 24bit 96Khz / 16bit 44.1Khz per track) intended for the studio and not for live events. In fact, the Logic suite has provided another very powerful software for live use called Mainstage. Therefore, I believe you should abandon the use of external peripherals and focus on Logic if you want to do production. If you want to perform Live, perhaps it would be better to opt for the study of Mainstage, which honestly I don't have great knowledge of. I know a little, but sincerely I have never had the need to use this tool for a live performance.
