Hello everyone,

I have a problem with the tuning stability of my piano; after a month at most, many notes tend to go heavily out of tune, especially in the highs. What does this depend on? Is there a particular way to handle the key to "stabilize it"? I noticed that individual strings have a "frequency fluctuation" going up and down after percussion.

I should specify that the tuning pins are tight.

Naturally, you must feel when the ankle actually rotates and when it twists instead. Moving back serves precisely to stabilize this movement. There is a point where, by pressing the key, the string does not drop and the ankle does not move. It can also depend on the design, which allows very little tolerance for pulling. That is how the Yamaha C7 is, extremely difficult to tune and stabilize. Furthermore, remember: tune hard, listen softly, stabilize very strongly. While tuning, the string must move along its entire length, including the backstring. By tuning timidly, the string is under little stress and the backstring might remain stationary....and then stretch when the tuner has finished and you start playing Chopin's Polonaise op. 53!

Thank you infinitely for the response and the advice, which are always extremely useful. I just wanted to better understand the difference between twisting and turning the ankle.

And then, why the frequency oscillation in a single string?

Hold one finger of the right hand tightly in the fist of the left. Try to turn the finger... you will feel it twist. If you insist, the finger turns (do not squeeze too hard or you will hurt yourself). In the ankle, this twisting is naturally less evident, but it exists. If it twists and does not turn, the string moves momentarily, but after a few seconds, or at the slightest stress, it returns to its previous position. You haven't stretched it, you have only moved it momentarily!

The oscillation of a single string (false beats) depends on an error in the bridge and the pin driven into the cut of the same... probably the line of the cut and the center of the driven pin do not coincide, creating from one string... two different lengths that vibrate and generate a discordance... like two strings that are not in unison.
