Masterclass, very useful insight for Bach.

I believe I have already expressed my opinion on Schiff. To me, he is a Great One. I listened to him recently on SKY playing the complete French suites and he amazed me. He surpasses all the preconceptions that sometimes hinder the "free" and "simple" interpretation of Bach. It is said that Bach played in a very "free" way and was not too conditioned by the speed of the tempo. Who knows?! Perhaps he sought in his music a sound that can only be realized in our present.....If that were the case, in a sweet science-fiction vision for Him, today we are able to satisfy him. And what would he even think of the brilliant reimagining of his Music, for example, by the great J. Loussier? (Jazz trio)??!!

Finally, I have much admiration and respect for those who delve deep into the reading of Bach's Music, which I find, for me, to be the most difficult of all.

Very true, Paolo. I don't know why but... after much reading I always return to Bach, and he is an author who never tires and never ceases to amaze.

I would like to achieve that freedom in playing him, but sometimes both the penalties and the constraints of the held notes block me quite a bit. For example, in the French [suites], I see that he doesn't hold very many notes. But how does he do it?

The non-holding of the ship is much discussed. He relies on a more 'liquid' sound and penalized. It makes the Author very current and adapts it to our instruments... the result, however, even if unorthodox in its procedure, is good.
