The thing is very strange. Usually, problems are the exact opposite of yours. Everyone complains about a mechanism that is too heavy, and there is a tendency to restore the original weights by eliminating friction.

I agree with Simone. It needs to be examined and the actual downweight and the relative return weight must be measured.
