I would like to share with you, friends of the forum, this piece that I wrote recently to participate in the fourth edition of the Benedict XVI Sacred Music Competition. Let's just say it went quite well, because I won second prize, and considering that they did not award a first prize, I can consider myself decidedly satisfied.
I propose that you listen to the piece to get your impression, with the caveat that the competition announcement required a cantata for mezzo-soprano, violin, and piano, on an assigned text taken from the Gospel of Matthew, and furthermore it was requested to draw inspiration from Respinghi's Gregorian concerto for violin, and from the vocal style of the mezzo-soprano in his various lied.
The piece that resulted is what you can listen to in the link below, with a recording made during the award ceremony; I know the quality is not the best and for this I apologize in advance to those who will surely have something to say, but in any case the piece is played well, so I decided to use the recording.

Regarding the fact that they didn't award first prize, I can only say that it is at the discretion of the judging commission, and from what I seemed to understand indirectly, a member of the commission didn't like the piece... it can happen, of course!! The only regret is that the first prize also included publication with a publishing house, and this would have been a great achievement... maybe next time!!
