Good morning everyone! I have an old GEM keyboard, a respectable brand that unfortunately failed a few years ago due to economic problems. The keyboard model is the GK360. This keyboard has MIDI outputs, but it does not have a USB port to connect it to a MAC with the Pro Logic X program. What is the best solution to overcome this problem? Before buying just any adapter, I would like to know about the disadvantages I might encounter by not having a USB port.
I think that even by buying an adapter, I wouldn't enjoy all the benefits of Pro Logic, so I am waiting for a complete answer from a more expert hand.
Keyboards that have a USB port are few and far between. You don't need to worry about this; the important thing is that it has MIDI outputs. Having a USB port means that the MIDI communication interface with the PC is already included in the keyboard. If there are only MIDI outputs, it means you will have to buy a MIDI-to-USB interface (they cost around 30 euros, don't buy the Chinese ones that cause a lot of problems). Interfacing with the PC/MAC happens simply by connecting Channel 1 of the USB interface to the keyboard's MIDI OUT port and the other end (the USB one) to the Mac's USB port. Logic automatically recognizes incoming MIDI data. All you have to do is then set up the MIDI data routing by creating a software instrument track in Logic Pro (not Pro Logic) and loading a sample library.
I have made several tutorials on the internet regarding the use of Logic 9. Version 10 does not differ much, except for the revised graphical interface and some implemented functions such as audio track tuning, which previously in version 9 was done with third-party software like Waves plugins or the timeless Melodyne.
