Motörhead (IPA: ˈmoʊtərhɛd) are a British hard & heavy[2] group, formed in London in 1975 at the initiative of the singer, bassist and historical leader Lemmy Kilmister.
They are considered among the main inspirations for speed and thrash metal, although Lemmy and his bandmates define themselves as authors of pure and simple rock and roll songs.[3][4] The most frequently recurring themes in their songs are war (understood mainly as a struggle against evil), drugs, sex, rock, child abuse and life "on the road". Worldwide they have sold almost 50 million records, of which 18 in the United States of America alone.[5]
