Dearest pianoexpert and thesimon, a week ago, I called an illustrious local tuner "prov. varese" to retune my son's piano; this time, the technician tuned it "by ear" taking about 2 hours, and asking my son if he was satisfied with such regulation... when I then described to him the creaking in the right pedal actuation mechanism, he started twisting and tilting the "famous" helical actuation spring that works under the horizontal pedal actuation lever, supposedly giving it more tension.... but WITHOUT solving the problem, so much so that I contacted my FRIEND and COMPETENT technician pianoexpert; he promptly advised me to buy a dry silicone spray and a teflon one for the felt parts... and as if by miracle, the pedal stopped making noise!!!!
But just yesterday, my son [expletive]... calls me from his room where he was studying Schubert's Impromptu No. 2... and tells me "Dad, the pedal is making noise again" and I said "that's not possible"; I remove the lower panel of the piano and NOTICE with great astonishment that the plastic bowl at the top of the "infamous" cylindrical spring had broken into a thousand pieces; imagine my dismay, and to myself, I said it must be... he gave that torsion and tilt to the spring which caused it to work incorrectly in this way.. isn't that right, pianoexpert??
Having questioned the technician, he... excluding any tampering with the spring... it was obvious.. he asked me for the piano's warranty details to contact Yamaha in Milan to be able to get that "damned" plastic piece... I will update you on this soap opera!!!
