hello everyone
i am addressing myself especially to those who have graduated in composition, as I am currently a student completing my diploma.
just tomorrow I will take the 2nd examination: variations for orchestra; and naturally a thousand doubts
are haunting me!
for example:
- must the variations maintain the same metric extension (the same number of measures) as the given theme?
- is it necessary to maintain stylistic coherence with the given theme, or can one demonstrate the ability to handle different languages (both different from the theme and among themselves, in the 3 variations)?
- I was thinking, as a general rule, of a gradual expansion of the variations: 1st var.: same number of measures as the theme; 2nd var.: double; 3rd var.: triple. will this be possible?
and then many other questions...
i should preface that my teacher, tendentially, does not give me limits. but since I am no longer (even if only for a little while, eh?!) a kid, I would like to be able to finish the exam with serenity.
could you give me some tips?
how was your diploma exam, in this sense?
