Paisiello: I Pittagorici: Chorus, Aria And Finale

The insipid opening chorus and the senseless lyrics of the following aria remind me so much of the worst Verdi (Nabucco, Aida, etc.)

At the "invitation" of Marebu I read the text, perhaps they don't seem like the absolute best to me, I report an excerpt:

"To his damage in vain gathers

the storm clouds, guilty fortune (2 v.)

The dense veil of other clouds goes to the ethereal fields (2 v.)

The thundercloud bursts and the thunder roars

But the Throne rises unmoved

And the lightning flashes even more beautifully

Than the cruel lightning bolt."

You won't like this libretto, but Vincenzo Monti is a good writer, well-educated, but above all of his era, which implies a profile and choices that today (not then) are incompatible with our (not theirs) idea of a writer and an artist.

Excuse me, but how would you judge these verses, especially taking into account the musical realization?
