Paoli...rea, How Do You "See" Them (or Rather, Hear Them)?

This summer I had the great pleasure of listening to them; enchanting evening!

On this occasion, Danilo Rea played on the Yamaha grand piano; at the end of the concert I had the privilege of speaking with Rea..

Great pianist and humble, helpful person.

I heard Paoli with Rea, Flavio Boltro, Rosario Bonaccorso and Roberto Gatto last June 29th in Verona.

The 4 musicians are good, each with characteristics that I think you know (Rea occasionally gets carried away with his right hand, "raises his elbow" and starts with his redundant arpeggios; Boltro plays too loudly almost always; Bonaccorso is there and not there like many double bassists; Gatto was just present, morally destroyed by the trio that opened the evening in which the percussionist was monstrously good). Anyway, they play jazz and they get by.

Paoli could have stayed in his hotel. That little bit he sang was completely out of style and out of tune, 2-3 times he didn't even start, and he stood out for his walks towards the back of the stage where he smoked like a chimney in full view. Can I say pathetic?

The opening trio was the "Shai Maestro trio" with Shai Maestro on piano, Jorge Roeder on double bass (poorly amplified) and the superb Ziv Ravitz on drums and percussion.

I don't dislike them, it feels a lot like contaminations to me ... but Zedef's post leaves no escape...

I believe that G Paoli has nothing to do with jazz. Jazz is invention, fantasy, ...his songs, as beautiful as they are, have been the same for many years. Umbria JAZZ should reflect a bit before proposing certain non-jazz situations, as sooner or later it will cause a heterogenesis of ends.
