Hello everyone,

I have been offered the chance to purchase a Petrof grand piano that is quite old but still, let's say, pleasant...

Tons of people, however, advise me against this particular brand because it would be poor quality. The alternative is a Kawai baby grand that I saw on this website, which is also pleasant and always very inexpensive. However, it is further away and the transport costs are not insignificant, as we all know, not to mention the stress on the instrument.

Can you advise me? Does anyone have a Petrof?

hi marge,

i had a 160 cm Petrof and I absolutely don't feel like saying it was poor quality, on the contrary.... it could perhaps be improved with a technician's intervention, but it certainly had its own very warm timbre to be recovered through tuning.

i have also always had this experience of very conflicting opinions.... Petrof has a very troubled history and has produced pianos that are also very different from each other, so I would evaluate case by case.

the only perplexity reading that you play jazz is precisely regarding the Petrof timbre, which I see as more suitable for a more classical repertoire.... but perhaps I am wrong.
