Simone thanks for the advice, I didn't know that one could help with the metronome, I would like to know more.

Instead of my hypothesis about setting the PC tuner for the inharmonicity of the octave in question, what do you think?

How do you quantify inharmonicity? Inharmonicity takes into account the width of the harmonics; instruments are needed to do something like that. TuneLab and Verituner have a specific function to calculate inharmonicity across the entire keyboard.

The tuner cannot accurately calculate inharmonicity because it depends on the length of the strings, their thickness, etc. All variables that are different for every pf model.

Am I wrong?

But some tuners "hear" that specific disharmony. Mine, for example, can be manually set to 1.0 cent or more.

Personally, I use Tunelab. I am not a professional tuner, yet it seems very reliable to me (at least for checking the state of one's own tuning).

As other users pointed out, it is a completely different matter to learn how to make the tuning stable. There is a specific setting and technique for it.

It is quite clear that everything is relative to hours of use, the environmental context, and also the brand of the piano and its age. But not only that.

My piano and tuning teacher's father tuned everything using only a tuning fork.

I am of the opinion that a computer, being precise but stupid, will never be able to measure up to a good ear.

Furthermore, one would need to have the wrench in hand every day to gain practice.

Well done Foster, yet with Paolo we tested the tuning with Tunelab; it does a good octave division, but then it gets completely lost in the lows and highs. Lows are too increasing and highs are too decreasing, despite the inharmonicity calculation... The human ear is a unique and irreplaceable instrument, especially considering taste, something that an electronic device, even with so much 'ear', can never have...

Yes, yes, I trust it, also because I wouldn't even have the competence to notice a similar issue.

I only know that the old Yamaha PT4 wasn't as precise as Tunelab. And we are talking about only about ten years ago...

Secondly, Tunelab, even the free version, is valid. The PT4 struggled with the high notes of my U3, while Tunelab did not.

Then clearly, if someone can spend over 800 euros on tuning software, all the best.

I confess that on 70% of the pianos I have tuned, unfortunately, Tunelab was also "too much.".

I downloaded an app called Cleartuner, it costs very few euros, works on iPad 2 and iPhone 4 and later, and was tested with an A440 Hz tuning fork and is precise.

If anyone wants to try it, I would like to know your impressions.

That being said, the ear and experience of the technician are indisputable.

Ps) I would very much like to be able to tune by ear.....

I believe that for costing only a few euros, it is not a piano tuner but one of those chromatic tuners for guitar. Do not use it on the piano because chromatic tuners used on pianos give results that are scandalous to say the least.

No glpiano, because they perform the pitch calculation in relation to the calculated inharmonicity. Chromatics do not do it.
