Piero Farulli International Composition Competition - First Edition

http://www.federazionecemat.it/index.php?id=2.11.51&lg=it

L’Associazione Piero Farulli, promoted in February 2014 by over one hundred friends, musicians and non-musicians, to continue keeping alive the moral legacy of this great protagonist of international musical life (for over thirty years violist of the famous Quartetto Italiano, founder of the Fiesole Music School, strenuous advocate of music as a tool for sociality) launches its first project with the International Composition Competition for Junior string quartets.

The competition features the participation of the Orchestra della Toscana, whose artistic director, Giorgio Battistelli, has decided to present the winning piece in the successful Play It 2015 festival. Ricordi publishing house will undertake the responsibility of printing the winning work (and the second prize in case of particular appreciation by the jury) with subsequent inclusion in the being-established Piero Farulli educational series for string quartet. The jury, of an international character, will be chaired by Giacomo Manzoni who worked with Piero Farulli for many years, forging an intense friendship that is reaffirmed today in this new role.

Remembering and honoring Piero Farulli through the creation of a repertoire for small and very small string quartets is the way to go straight to the heart of our country's situation. Making music together has always been Farulli's great mission, and above all, making them do it from a young age. But a true repertoire for this sector is almost completely lacking, if perhaps Great Britain is excluded!

Offering educational incentives to the very young to learn how to dialogue in fours responds to Piero Farulli's deep conviction, witnessed by his entire life, regarding the centrality of the string quartet; first, children get used to swimming in this fascinating sea, the more difficult it will be for them to abandon an extraordinary art that can be both a training ground for sociality and a very high testimony of Western culture.
