hi,
i wanted to get some information about Pro Tools 9 and 10.
Is there a free version (like the PT 8 LE) that would allow me to use the program in a basic version without having to necessarily purchase it?

Once there was Pro Tools FREE

There is no recent version of the FREE software. The only one you can have is LE, provided that you have Avid LE series hardware.
Eventually there is PRO TOOLS SE, a version similar to Cubase AI, meaning it is bundled with certain Avid products, even more reduced than LE (typically it works on M-Audio systems)

I have an old Digidesign Mbox 2 with Pro Tools 8 LE.
would it be possible to get a free LE version of 9 or 10 somehow?
i need it to get familiar with the new versions of the program without having to purchase it

As far as I know, there is nothing recent that is free; you can download the software as a trial and try it for a few weeks... then, alas, you'll have to reach into your wallet...
