I'm going crazy. In Kontakt Player, the DirectSound drivers have disappeared and I'm left with only ASIO4ALL. I haven't been able to find anything about it online.

Does anyone have any ideas?

I only have asio4all left, but the fact is that it's even acting up. In the sense that it plays back and then finds the output unavailable. I tried reinstalling it, but nothing.

how sad. The fact is that I would have needed it in standalone to be able to use more than 16 ports in a single instance...

Try downloading (always momentarily, others might perhaps find the solution) a vst host; it is free and you can load every type of vst into it, try it. When the program opens, it seems to me that right among the items in the drop-down menu where it says the classic "file", there is "new plug in"; I don't remember (this memory is a mess) if it says exactly this or something similar, but it is the function that allows you to load vst. For vst host, you also have to set the audio drivers, but it's not certain that it won't work. Alternatively, you can try to restore the operating system to a date prior to when you started having problems; files are not deleted.

i use savihost, which is similar, and with that I actually have all the usual drivers. But the problem is that this way I only have one midi port with 16 channels. Anyway, for now, it's the only solution that works.

Uhm, but do you have the same problem with other VSTs and standalone synths or only with Kontakt?

No, fortunately I only have it with Kontakt, and that is the strange thing.

Anyway, I gave up on it and I just limit myself to using it in the VST host where, indeed, the problem does not arise. The only thing, as I was saying, is that I have to open more than one instance, with the consequent expenditure of RAM....

Eh lo so è un problema, pensavo che utilizzasse meno ram e invece è praticamente uguale; però quando ho caricato una libreria che uso spesso su kontakt, mi sembra di ricordare che ha impiegato meno tempo rispetto alla modalità stand alone.

the bad thing is that, at least in my case, at a certain point the instruments stop playing properly, meaning that the first one I loaded continues to work while the others stutter.

I'll have to make up my mind to change my PC...

If it stutters, I would try to increase the buffer size of the DFD mode in Kontakt. Kontakt has two modes of operation: Sampler, which loads all samples into the RAM to have latency close to 0 when we need to use it in LIVE contexts (provided we have a sufficient amount of RAM to load all samples), or in DFD (Direct From Disk) mode, in which as many buffers are created as there are samples. Part of the samples—or to be precise, the initial part—is loaded into RAM to compensate for latency issues caused by loading files directly from the hard disk. By preloading part of the samples into a RAM buffer, the system has the necessary access time to the disk to load the remaining parts of the samples. The buffer size can be modified according to your needs in relation to the machine's workload, its speed, and the number of loaded plugins; this is why it is always better to have a large enough amount of RAM available. To modify the buffer, click on the wrench-shaped button in the instrument, then on Instrument Options at the bottom. In the DFD TAB, increase it notch by notch until the problem no longer occurs.

NB. With this operation, you are not modifying the buffer size of all libraries loaded in the working area, but only the buffer size of the library you are referring to!

I tried to do what you suggest and something has perhaps improved, although the improvements seem more or less random to me (in the sense that it seemed to work well at first, then after a while it started again. Probably the two disks on the PC also have problems, or I haven't managed to properly adjust the buffer size yet (it takes a bit of time because every modification reloads the instrument). By acting on the general buffer, it seems that the loading doesn't happen every time, but I can't perceive differences in the changes (it probably only activates upon restart and so we are back to square one). Thank you anyway for the tip.

The mystery is revealed... The buffers empty out and the sound stutters until some data enters the buffer again. In essence, it's like having a water source and a well that serves a house. The primary source refills the well. If the amount of water transfer in liters per minute from the source supplying the well is less than the amount of water in liters per minute consumed inside the house, sooner or later the well runs dry and the water no longer flows with the same pressure and quantity. Now, in the digital case, we cannot afford this luxury, so I think you will be forced to opt for a hard disk with more performance. I recommend a good SSD. You can find various types on Amazon at very competitive prices. With that, you won't have any more problems... Just out of curiosity, are the library samples you are using 16 or 24 bit?

In any case, if the size of the samples does not exceed 2 GB by much—but to give you these problems, I believe they are much larger—you could opt to use Kontakt in sampler mode instead of DFD...

Even Geppino wrote it in another topic tangent to this subject... the speed of the disc is fundamental

the ones that stutter are 24 bit. In the end, the only way I've found so far is to record piece by piece, although I don't like it much as a solution.

As far as you know, is there a way to tell Kontakt so that every new instrument is used in sampler mode instead of DFD?

Yes, I remember. My initial problem anyway remains the list of audio drivers in Kontakt ....
