In general, regarding the second movement, people often speak of light music superficiality, of film-like sentimentality with tearful clichés, of expressive banality, etc.
I, on the contrary, find that this second movement is a masterpiece and, above all, that it responds to a very, very modern aesthetic, I would even say futuristic, for the year in which it was composed (1901).
In short, it is precisely the absolute modernity that strikes me first, and there is an abyss of difference between this music and Korngold's violin concerto, for example.
It is truly a pity that this concerto is often limited to the stereotype of being an icon for those coming from other genres who approach classical music.
