It is a question as immense as Africa!!!!!!

Let's say that being in the factory and seeing a rim being shaped (I witnessed this at Casa Steinway) is exciting. Next, the soundboard and then the frame... it already creates the identity of the instrument. Following, in broad lines, are the perforated plate, pinblock, and strings. The action is prepared and assembled in a separate department. Even the painting and polishing are almost always "smoothed" by hand. Then everything regarding the sound, especially the felting of the hammers and their voicing, as well as stable tuning and regulation. A sheet accompanies the instrument through the various stages. The final signature is applied by the final inspecting technician. From that moment on, the piano can be put on display. Entering, for example, the exhibition hall of the Steinway factory in Hamburg causes an adrenaline rush!!!!!

In reality, there are so many details. One should watch the existing videos that tell the story of the birth of a piano. I believe Steinway has published them.
