Hello everyone, I would like some advice if possible on how to unglue the ivory keytops without damaging them.

I had thought about using an iron but I am really afraid .... I wouldn't want to risk ruining them

I await your precious advice

Regards

An iron that is not too hot is enough to prevent the keys from deforming. Naturally, place a cloth in between. Then use a cutter or a thin blade to gently detach the ivory. For gluing, do not use contact cement, as it darkens. Ivory allows the color to seep through. It would be better to use special powder glue to be dissolved. Special clamps are necessary for gluing. Before gluing, you obviously have to remove the old glue from the key. On the wood, be careful not to remove the white cloth which, if the work was done properly, should be present. Good luck with your work
