i am looking for 5-6 Renaissance themes, possibly themes of typically Renaissance dances.
i am rather ignorant on the subject, so my research is progressing slowly and by trial and error! could any forum user give me some tips?
e.g. is there a good text on the history of Renaissance dance? (which would be useful for me to frame the context, the repertoire, the dances and the composers). Or... Could you suggest some collections of specific themes (title, publisher, etc.)?
so far I have identified 3 themes:
- Piva (Dalza) - it is titled this, nothing else I know
- the famous Saltarello
- the theme reused by Angelo Branduardi for "ballo in fa diesis minore"
i would need to know precisely if a certain theme X is e.g. a contredanse or an 'allemande, or whatever, a galliard... in order to then trace back to the corresponding dance steps.
