You know, if restoring a piano is difficult, restoring a bayonet-style one is very difficult.
1) assess the state of the soundboard (cracks, flattening on the bridges, etc.)
2) verify the condition of the strings, which will by now need to be replaced (including larger gauge tuning pins so they hold better)
3) before proceeding, assess the state of the soundboard cap/ribs... ensuring there are absolutely no cracks or collapses, otherwise the new tuning pins will do nothing but cause it to collapse further, preventing them from holding and thus affecting the tuning.
4) proceed then to the restoration of the action, starting with the new bushings for the keyboard and its guide pins, both central and front. Cashmere of a thickness adequate to the new pins must be used and applied with graduated cauls and a hot procedure.
5) then restoration of the action (felts and skins) and replacement of the hammer rail with drilling appropriate to the geometry of the action (they might have been shaved down, thus falsifying the drilling distance relative to the apex)
6) special attention deserves the dampers, specifically the bayonet type, which fall by gravity and have a reduced damping capacity. The perfect gluing of the special felts and punctual regulation will make the function acceptable.
7) numerous other refinements and checks, such as precise regulation, tuning, and hammer voicing
It requires an expert who is willing to dedicate themselves with time and competence adequate to the instrument.
