I am highlighting this petition; the new structure will ensure care and protection for a heritage that is unique in the world, and the possibility for scholars to benefit from it without the current long waiting times.
The collection started by Father G. B. Martini is, for the music historian, one of the seven wonders of the world. Since the '90s, it has been recognized by the competent protection bodies that the conservation conditions (and accessibility) of the library heritage in Piazza Rossini 2 are entirely inadequate. The now-established structural instability of the building must induce the owning entity (the Municipality) and the hosting entity (the State) to promptly transfer the Library to the headquarters at Strada Maggiore 34. Appropriate forms of collaboration with research entities active in Bologna in the musical and musicological fields could transform the opportunity of this long-awaited transfer into an additional resource offered both to the citizenry and to scholars, whether local, Italian, or foreign.
