Robert Schumann Blog

Hi Eusebio, the idea of a blog is beautiful but nonetheless complex to set up.

These great masters deserve space and dedication, even though I believe you won't lack the latter. If even as a boy you loved Schumann so deeply that you dedicated your life to him... well! Then there are no doubts. What you say has its own great truth; a truth that is undoubtedly inexplicable. Before tackling lower-level compositions at the conservatory, I approached some accessible pieces by Schumann, but with some of them I felt a real sensation of impossibility in entering the piece; I wouldn't even know how to explain exactly what was happening. Schumann is passionate, poetic, cantabile, and prophetic, why not, but... he also has a very personal idea of composition and of music in general; he seems to belong to that circle of artists who create based on a strong inner impulse, fueled from within their own spirit, a kind of will-o'-the-wisp that burns without the need to add wood to the crucible; a character like Edgar Degas who, in the midst of Impressionism, created that fantastic and new way of seeing things.

It would be nice to talk a little about Schumann. Just think, lately I was rereading a small piece (The Poet Speaks) from Kinderszenen and I must say we are seriously on another planet; that little piece has the greatness of the Goldberg Variations as far as I am concerned, or at least it possesses their usual absolute value.

I wish you good work in the hope that I too can manage to achieve something like this one day.

thanks for the response, which I read carefully. My project goes far beyond a blog, which is just a beginning. But my dream is to one day found an Association dedicated to Schumann... I am very ambitious and we will see in the future if I succeed in this endeavor.

Schumann: I have learned that many people either like him or they don't. Although, in my opinion, to deeply understand his music (which I define as unconventional), one must understand his thought. Listening to Kreisleriana may or may not capture you internally, but going beyond the simple music opens up a world. The same goes for the Novelletten and so on. And this is somewhat my intention.

The Kinderszenen are not simple at all; on the contrary, at an interpretive level, they are among the most complex compositions. The theme of the first piece being present in every other piece in the collection is the subject of a study I am currently conducting by reading various publications on the matter.

I would so much like to succeed in my intention. I am trying and I am putting—and will put—in all my enthusiasm. We shall see further down the road.

Of nothing. I am in complete agreement and what you want to achieve is an honor to you. I see it as a fantastic project... maybe it's the forty years?? Ha ha... anyway, a similar idea flashed through my mind some time ago too, and so... in the middle of the journey of our life... somehow perhaps age matters. I would like to create an art hall or rather an art gallery to non-profitly promote the works of young artists (I am a painter by training) since in my youth I only found swindlers asking for money in exchange for nothing.

i also hope to make it all happen.

Again, I urge you to continue and persist in your project, do not give up! Nothing is impossible.

Hi, great idea.

You could even have a dedicated Schumann section opened here in the forum (there are dedicated ones for Beethoven, Bach, Liszt, etc.)

Could you go into more depth, perhaps also in the composition section, regarding what I quoted in bold?
