good evening, on my Kawai piano, there is a "wood" noise when the hammer, after the strike, returns to its resting position.
I believe I have reached the conclusion that it is the repetition lever; in fact, by putting a very thin layer of felt between the repetition lever and the escapement, the problem is eliminated.
Is it possible? The repetition lever does not show abnormal wear, but could it be hardened?

I believe it depends on the regulation of the jack level relative to the repetition lever, also in relation to the spring tension. It depends, though less so, also on the felt of the escapement jack-limiting button, which is what regulates the alignment of the jack itself with the roller core. If everything is well regulated, with the action stationary, one slowly releases the jack with a finger and should feel a very slight friction, what the Americans call "rocking the fly"

Yes, based on how you describe it, it sounds like the return noise of the pusher under the repetition roller; with the correct adjustment of the repetition lever height, it can certainly be limited, in addition to the correct spring tension... it is a compromise because much depends on the type of action and the levers, meaning that noises add up especially where there are short levers in all parts of the piano, including the pedal for example.
