L’Unione Corale Senese presents the work "Romancero Gitano" for guitar and choir with an exceptional performer. Again

With this initiative, the Unione Corale Senese offers the public a work of rare beauty for guitar and choir, written by Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco in 1951; for the occasion, the guitar protagonist will be Edoardo Catemario, one of the greatest performers on the international classical guitar scene.
Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, a Florentine author of Jewish origin, an intellectual and artist with international reach, was forced to flee to the United States after the enactment of the racial laws. The guitar is among his favorite instruments and he wrote a vast repertoire for it, drawing inspiration primarily from the Spanish folk tradition. Fascinated by the poetry of García Lorca, he sets some lyrics of the Cante Jondo to music in the Romancero, fully capturing and expanding upon the spirit, the Gypsy atmospheres, the suggestions, and the great symbolisms present in the text. In this work, the music is born from the text and remains tied to it to the point that it is difficult to imagine Lorca's own words without Castelnuovo-Tedesco's music.
In the performance we are proposing, directed by Maria Teresa Dalla Torre, the Romancero is preceded and introduced by a poetic recitative appendix, of an intimate tenor, performed by a narrating voice, mezzo-soprano, guitar, and dance-theater. The poetry, developed on the emotional and dark wave of the duende that exudes from Lorca's verses, is emphasized by the bodily and visceral act of dance. A dense, estranging, and lacerating earthly bond that develops in the bodies that move and evoke a fascinating, lost, and at the same time dramatically current world: gypsies, foreigners, wanderers.
