I was not aware of this beautiful piece by Balkanski, a contemporary Bulgarian composer (Bulgaria is a very musical nation and 20th-century Bulgarian music is extremely interesting), and well played by two young talents. The guitar-piano formation is truly singular, but it works! Reflecting and composing for "strange" or unusual formations is certainly an opportunity for today's composers... furthermore, youth ensembles and repertoire for children should not be neglected... This way, new expressive avenues are found and performers who are well-disposed toward new and NECESSARY repertoire are discovered, thus providing a small service to musicians, in the spirit of what Paul Hindemith, for example, advocated.
