Scary virtual instruments

I listened to an oboe piece with my phone (I can't trust the listening experience with this speaker), anyway it sounds very realistic. As for the other wind instruments (saxophones in particular), they are difficult to find in VST format; to be precise, they can be found but not of a certain quality. Thanks for the report.

I listened a bit more closely: perhaps the oboe among those I've listened to (oboe, bassoon, and saxophone) has the best sound; the others, especially the bassoon, are not very realistic (the audio file quality also plays a part); the saxophone (alto) in "When I fall in love" isn't bad per se, but at least for how they set it up for a specific piece, it is too "metallic"; perhaps they emphasized the mid frequencies too much, but they aren't bad sounds. However, in Stefano's song 44 saxophones, all the flaws of this library come out; of course, one has to see how they set up the sounds for each individual instrument, but for me, this piece doesn't work; they sound like typical accompaniment keyboard sounds, a bit far from the performances of other pieces published as demos.

I own the Sample Modeling Brass: trumpet, trombone, horns, and tuba. In my opinion, they are fantastic as solo instruments; lately, I have been trying to put them together to form ensembles of these instruments to see how they sound because I am not very satisfied with the East West brass. The programming is not easy, because there is a risk that by putting 4 trumpets together, they still sound like 4 soloists rather than an ensemble. The samples are monophonic, so you cannot play a dyad or a chord with them (as in reality for a wind instrument), so anyone wanting to use them for an orchestra must be very careful with doubling. The instruments are completely dry; this is the Sample Modeling philosophy—the ambience must be recreated from scratch—but ultimately this is a characteristic shared by many high-quality libraries; even LASS or Vienna are dry.

Frankly, the saxophones don't blow me away; I don't have the woodwinds and haven't listened to them, but it must be said that there is already something very valid out there for woodwinds, such as Berlin Woodwinds, whereas for brass, apart from Vienna, there isn't all that much choice if you want to aim for the highest quality and realism.

I think Sample Modeling is an excellent choice especially regarding realism; you cannot play a chord with a trumpet sample because the trumpet is a monophonic instrument, whereas in EW you have a sample of 4 trombones and you can play a chord, so it's as if each trombone plays 3 notes or it's like having 4 x 3 = 12 trombones, which is impossible in an orchestra.....
