I am new to the forum and, among other things, it is the first one I have subscribed to. Of all those I have had the chance to visit, I have had the impression of a truly very serious community.
Premising that I have always desired to learn how to play, I am almost 40 years old without having done so yet. So, using my daughter as an excuse, I approached a school last year and, long story short, we are both students.
Today, therefore, I find myself with the great desire to purchase OUR first piano. Initially, I was leaning towards a quarter grand, for reasons of space and cost; however, one cannot command the heart and, after being bombarded with information about Chinese, Japano-Indonesian, and Japanese Pianos and having gone from 155 to 180 cm, I caught sight of the Schimmel International 188. It is truly my space limit.
Forming a real judgment is difficult. Today I play on a Yamaha P-45 digital which allows me to practice, but I wish to hear the music [for now, exercises!] differently. In my research, I have tried Yamaha gb1 - gc2 - gx - c3x and also Kawai GX2. Obviously, they are all fascinating to me. From the Kawai, I appreciated the keyboard, the depth of the bass, and also some details of the finish.
Then I sat in front of the Schimmel and it felt like I had climbed another couple of steps: a beautiful sound, a very precise keyboard, and attractive finishes.
Obviously, it is also a matter of personal taste. Anyway, let's just say that if at first I thought, with the GX2, that I had found "our piano," now I would be more oriented towards the Schimmel.
Should anyone wish to give me their opinion, even a general one, on this German brand, I would be truly grateful. Besides knowing it in general and having some info on its recent financial vicissitudes, I haven't found much on the web. I also don't know the construction details of the instrument [a technical sheet].
