Hello everyone, my dilemma is exactly this as per the subject. The budget is not very high, about 2500, but I wanted to try to get something that sounds decent and above all has a good timbre (I heard some Yamahas that were cold and very similar to western pianos) whereas I would like a warm and decisive sound. I saw in two different shops in Rome a Schulz from the 60s, about 125cm high, it sounds very good, Renner action, the cabinet is okay. The other one is a Burger from 2000, English action, smaller cabinet 118 if I remember correctly. What do you recommend?
They are both good instruments... but many things must be compared. One should see them... and hear them. Yamahas can also be valid. Sometimes a poorly prepared piano is presented, and then apparently a newer one wins just because it sounds softer, etc.. For a good comparison, they should be well-prepared and then examined. However, a competent technician knows how to recognize what lies good or bad beneath the appearance. Sometimes with a good tuning and especially a good voicing of the hammers, the sound "transforms," everything appears different.
