Hello,
opening my upright and peeking into the action, I noticed that, especially in the central keys of the keyboard, the felts covering the hammer heads are slightly indented by the action of the escapement wicks.
I am asking you if this "wear" is physiological after a certain period of time or if it is a problem/defect/anomaly?
The piano in question is a Kawai upright (112) about 20 years old, used very little nonetheless.

Well, used very little....not much. The felt of the hammers isn't worn down with just a few hours of work. Was the piano sold as new? Furthermore, if the hammer felt has reached the point of being worn through, the hammer rail will likely be heavily marked, and one must also check the condition of the hammer pins and capstans, as well as the escapement parts.
One needs to see what issues might arise, whether from just the wear of the felt and/or everything else. Surely the action is still efficient, but perhaps it could function better. It needs to be examined.
