Sends

Hi Stefanus, the use of sends in Logic is a topic of central importance. In tutorial number 5, if I remember correctly, I spoke about it briefly; however, in three lessons we will discuss it extensively. In particular, in the next lesson we will talk about recording MIDI tracks, in the one after that we will talk about effects that can be placed in inserts, and immediately after that, we will finally talk about sends.

I am giving you a preview of the discussion, but I will go into more detail in the video course where I will show how to use them.

In this first image, we can see an external use of the bus. That is, we can redirect an input signal from the audio interface input to the stereo output and a copy of the signal by sending it to a BUS which redirects it to another output to which we connect, for example, headphones or a monitor speaker. This can be useful when we need to let musicians listen to signals from other instruments using a bus to redirect them to different outputs.

In this second image, instead, we see the use of the bus within the program. When I say within, I mean that the input and output of the bus remain within the software environment, i.e., inside the program. In the first case, however, the bus signal entered the software but exited through hardware. As you can see in this second image, part of the signal is sent via bus to another channel strip containing inserts; it is therefore processed and finally reunited with the original before the stereo out. Therefore, the original signal is preserved, but a part of it is modified before being reunited prior to the speaker output.
