Sharp resonance on a G3 — Pianoconcerto Forum

Good morning, I hope I am posting in the right section. I have a forty-year-old Yamaha U3 refurbished in Hamamatsu. I noticed a couple of days ago that when playing G3, there is a resonance tuned to G but extremely high-pitched, which is more present the harder I play. Can anyone direct me toward the possible cause and consequently how to reduce it?

It could be a damper that doesn't dampen well and allows a harmonic to resonate. Try to identify which sound it generates (the octave, the third, the fifth, etc.)

Good morning, thank you for the answer, it is about the octave; the harmonic I hear is always a G even if rather high.

So should I check the dampers in your opinion?

I would check them. Stop them with the help of felt in different areas of the hitch pin plate and try to identify where the resonance is coming from. Avoid touching the strings with your hands.
