Hello everyone
I have finally finished arranging
the 12 songs that we should play in a pub
with our band.
As soon as we finished rehearsing, everyone was happy...
Except for one person who tells me...
"In my opinion, arranging Monk's songs makes no sense. Because in any case, no matter how much you try, you will never be able to get into Monk's head to make arrangements the way he would" and then again
"This arrangement isn't good because it gives this song a different light compared to Monk's thought (Darkness)."
How can I not agree with him?
So what should be done?
Not make arrangements?
Read the Real Book just as it is with a melodic line?
I must mention that during the time when I started making these arrangements
I neglected the Choir workshop, which I resumed a few days ago.
In your opinion, is all the time spent arranging a waste of time?
Because in my opinion, the guy is right in principle
but then shouldn't one play nothing at all because you can't get into a musician's spirit?
Who in the world could manage to make arrangements like Monk as if they were Monk?
