Hello,

Can anyone recommend a good PC program where one can create music by writing the scores for various instruments and also be able to modify them later?

One free and very well made (but on which you still cannot load VSTs) is Musescore 2.0; the new release came out on Tuesday, the graphical interface has improved greatly, plus for more advanced users, there is a tool included in the program's "palettes" that allows for the development of new plugins (through writing code).

The most commonly used software are Finale and Sibelius, including the First version, with obvious limitations given the low price.

I don't remember the difference between the "light" versions of Finale and Sibelius right now, but for example, the Finale one allows you to prepare scores up to 24 staves compared to 16 in Sibelius; on the other hand, Sibelius allows the export of a video file of the composition, whereas if I remember correctly, Finale does not allow it (note: I am always talking about entry-level versions).

Musescore can load an unlimited number of staves, it is lightweight as a program, imports MIDI sounds and soundfonts (some of decent quality can be found), and is very intuitive to use; plus (which is no small thing) it is free.

In any case, download the trial versions of Finale PrintMusic, Sibelius First, and Musescore 2.0, try them out, and see which one you feel most comfortable with.
