Steinway differences

As far as I know, the way of voicing the hammers changes. In Hamburg, they use a "pricking" method on very compressed hammers. In New York, it's the reverse process: they start with soft hammers to which cone shaping is applied. But I could be wrong.

the main difference could be, but not for all, the distance between the hammer center and the damper flange which is generally 17mm. In the American one it can be 16-16.5. The frames are those from Hamburg because they are cast in New York; the hammer felting is different in America. The substance and the type of voicing are also different.

Am I mistaken, or did you tell me that the easier one is 17 mm, which all manufacturers now tend to respect?
