Good morning everyone.

I haven't played the piano for a while and I notice that, in particular, my right arm is stiff and my shoulder is contracted.

When I notice it, I try to relax my arm and shoulder without stopping, but I have the impression that I am unable to improve, even with a very slow metronome.

Is there something you recommend doing, or should I just keep insisting because it's a matter of time?

While playing, I also have chest pain and I cannot find a shoulder position, bench height, or distance from the keyboard that works. When I stand up, I feel my chest cracking and I feel like I have hunched over, despite the effort to keep my shoulders open.

Do you have any advice?

It is not a problem that you solve on the piano. You are posturally closed off and it is this aspect that you must correct. How? Postural gymnastics.

What does your Teacher say? In the beginning, everything must be kept under control by an expert person who watches closely. Tension and stiffness lead you astray in practice and create no small amount of physical problems. Therefore, rely on the Teacher, who will give you the appropriate advice

Hi, the teacher says that for now it's okay, to continue trying to keep the arms relaxed and to move more with the torso while playing. It is actually the same advice I found in the book The art of practicing by Madeline Bruser.
