I have a problem with a key on my Daytron upright piano, in the high note section; it belonged to a friend and I recently took possession of it.
Playing it with the top open, I noticed that the hammer struggled to return to position, and by pressing the note several times, I felt as if wood were rubbing somewhere. Eventually, I noticed that the back part of the key, the part closest to the action, is almost completely stuck to the key to its right, which in turn, when pressed, lifts the iron pin moving the entire key (I am attaching a couple of photos to help you understand better). My question is whether I can fix it with a few moves or if it is an intervention that must necessarily be done by a technician.
While I am writing to ask for information, I will also pose another question regarding the dampers. When I press the sustain pedal, they do not completely detach from the strings, and when they move, they are not all synchronized; some rise a little sooner, others a little later (a matter of millimeters). Here too, the question is whether I can resolve it myself, or if it is necessary to have a technician look at it, and if the fact that they are not perfectly synchronized indicates some other type of problem or if it is normal.
