I have decided to return to the 'basics' and study them well..... I have decided that rather than learning pieces, I am more interested in learning many studies (intended as etudes, in short, exercises that are musical and not just exercises)
for classics, I like Czerny very much; I chose those from opus 599; but I like to range across various styles, so I managed to find some studies that span all genres, from classical to blues to jazz, etc., from a composer I like very much, Marco Catarsi, truly excellent. I believe I have bought all his books with exercises, pieces and studies, and I am already learning all the less difficult ones. Does anyone else know other series by other authors that have EASY studies in many different genres? By easy I mean not beyond level 4, level 5, let's say not beyond the technique required in the final part of Czerny op 599.
I would like to have a lot of material on studies; I realized that I am more satisfied by this process of studying many short studies instead of spending months on two or three longer pieces.
Furthermore, the studies should have detailed fingering.... I don't want to waste too much time racking my brain over fingering (in the end, studies also serve to provide many detailed examples of fingering).
Hanon's are not of interest to me because it is not music, although they certainly serve a purpose. Other examples? Regarding classical I am set, so I would be more interested in jazz, blues, even rock studies. I almost disdain nothing.
