The article is dated at least 2008, given the first response in the article, and in the meantime (but also before..) some things have changed.

There are some inaccuracies.. among many:

- first of all, it would be more correct to speak of Conservatories in the plural since the realities are very different. In medium-small environments, the atmosphere is different from how it is described.. in my case there are about 500 students and everyone can confirm that they know the director, many teachers, many classmates (also thanks to collective activities such as the choir)

- Conservatory teachers can no longer teach in private schools, and if they get caught, they're in trouble

- in an external school, you don't always do choir, chamber music, or orchestra.

I also find that certain words (whip, humiliations..) are truly out of place: perhaps the blogger has had such experiences, I certainly have not.

In any case, in a few years, pre-academic courses should be removed from Conservatories (which will only have academic training, unless they activate an internal parallel path entrusted to teachers other than those paid by the State, as already happens in some institutes), so that external schools and (perhaps.. I doubt it) musical high schools will be responsible for preparing students for admission to three-year programs. Not by chance, many Conservatories have activated agreements with external schools precisely to standardize the programs for those who want to study from an academic perspective.

I heard that it is a choice the conservatory will have to make, in the sense that some will effectively renounce pre-academic courses, remaining universities in the strict sense, while others will take care of pre-academic courses....

It seems to me that we are moving towards a sort of French model.

What do you think, Zedef?

It is not known, but certainly it will not be the individual institutes that choose (see the case of pre-academic institutions in Naples).

For sure, by the end of 2014, the two-year programs will be regulated, and based on how they turn out, the rest will be decided. The alternative should be, according to what the new conference of directors is saying:

1. three-year program + two-year program = old diploma (and eventually a specialization master's)

2. three-year program = old diploma and then a two-year specialization.

Obviously, hypothesis 1, having a lower level of access (5th year out of the 10 of the old system), leaves room for the existence of many conservatories, while hypothesis 2 could lead towards a French model (few conservatories and many lyceums).

Reading the first 2 points, it seems to me that the three-year period is a bit of a "hybrid". In case 2 it counts as an "old diploma", in case 1 if you don't have the two-year period you don't have the "old diploma". It really seems like the result of a flawed reform ...

But here you say:

Did you mean completion of middle school + two-year period = old diploma?

What I wrote are exactly the two hypotheses they are currently working on; middle completion cannot grant access to the two-year period, a first-level degree or a first-level academic diploma or an old system diploma is required.. it will also be interesting to see how it ends with the 2012 decree that equates the old system to the two-year period but only if obtained by the end of 2012: maybe they will annul it, but in the meantime someone will have already taken advantage of it for a public competition or things like that.. on the other hand:
