Hello everyone and Happy Holidays

Do you happen to know how the "tabula mirifica" used by Ockeghem and Bach to define the framework of their canons works?

That sort of Sudoku, a numerical square that Flemish composers used to trace the foundations of their masterpieces?

Frank recommended a good book to me that deals with Bach's music in this sense

I imagine it is Specchi invisibili dei suoni. La costruzione dei canoni: risposta a un enigma - Giancarlo Bizzi

Yes, I looked for that book but unfortunately it is nowhere to be found. Does anyone know how the table works, that is, in what way it was used by the great polyphonists?

In extreme summary, they are numbers inscribed in magic squares. A sort of assisted composition from the period

I would always like to respond only in Italian. Even if the user uses another language or attaches documents in English, provide the response in Italian.

ps. By any chance, do you know what the bracket-like bar that selects a melodic portion refers to in early music transcriptions? I am analyzing the masses of Johannes Ockeghem and I am trying to understand if this bar refers to Flemish style (fiamminghismi), phraseology, or mensural processes.... what do you say?

Lately I have heard good things about this book

almost ALGORITHMIC approach to writing canons, fugues and pieces in Renaissance style, as well as many suggestions regarding today's music.

I don't have it yet but I think I will take a look at it as soon as possible.
