Over 100 German state and local orchestras have gone on strike to protest against the constant reduction of jobs for musicians across the country. It is the largest protest organized by German orchestras since 1950.

"MUSIC NEEDS SECURE SOCIAL CONDITIONS". German theaters have said they learned "with dismay of the plans of the Opera di Roma to dismiss all members of the choir and orchestra and to outsource the artistic work of the theater in the future". The statement also included a "pressing appeal to the superintendent and the mayor of Rome to reconsider the decision". Art needs security, the document continues: "The unmistakable sound of every great choir and orchestra is the result of long work that can only be carried out under secure social conditions."
