"The Remedy of Fortune" From Le Remede De Fortune by Guillaume De Machaut

The original Le remède de fortune, written by the French poet and composer Guillaume de Machaut, dates from 1342: a treatise in the form of a

narration on Love and Fortune that alternates poetic texts, musical compositions, and images.

This multidisciplinarity, so close to the conception of contemporary staging, inspired the version (performed at the Teatro

Strehler in its absolute world premiere, noted by Stradivari) which brings together a group of artists, including Fanny Ardant, as a speaking voice in the role of Hope. The author Alex Cremonesi has transformed texts, words, ideas, and feelings from Old French to modern Italian. The composer Filippo Del Corno, while maintaining the melodic profiles of the original melodies, has inserted them into a contemporary soundscape bridging art and folk music. The live music performance is entrusted to the ensemble Sentieri Selvaggi directed by Carlo Boccadoro, completed by soprano Chiharu Kubo and tenor Mirko Guadagnini, singers equally at home in both ancient and contemporary repertoire.

What Machaut could not have imagined, and which represents the most unexpected feature of the show – but is perfectly consistent with the original spirit of the treatise – is entrusted to the Italian duo Masbedo: one of their performative installations, also live, will make the surprising poetic and musical images of the work visible.

Il Rimedio della Fortuna is the third event of Milano Arte Musica,

scheduled in various locations across the city from July 10 to August 29, 2012.

It is not easy for me to speak of Dario Del Corno, who passed away Thursday evening in Milan at the age of 76. First, long before I knew him as a scholar, I knew him as my father's dearest pupil, with whom, when my memories begin, he was preparing his degree thesis. To speak of him, therefore, means to retrace the thread of decades and decades of a habit. His visits, at home, in my father's study: first as a student, then as an "assistant," as a young professor, and finally as a "full professor" holding the chair that had belonged to his teacher. These are visits that I remember not only for personal reasons.
