It is certainly used in Jazz, I know it has deeper roots but I can't be more precise...you'll see that someone will clear things up for you

Vale should be an expert

As with the sixth addition, we are in the '700s... but unlike this last one, the practice of Basso Continuo is full of the second addition, so one must look in texts that deal with BC and not in those on harmony (see Rameau's treatise))
