Good evening to everyone, after a series of compositions for keyboard and orchestra, I have chosen Bach's other favorite instrument... the organ, and more precisely the Toccata and Fugue in F major BWV 540.
Composed in Weimar approximately between 1714-1717, it presents a peculiar predominance of the toccata (438 measures) compared to the fugue (170); the fugue is articulated into 2 themes: the first in the form of a ricercare, the second in a more agile guise, and a concluding section that brings the two subjects together. The toccata is divided into two large blocks, in which the second develops a discourse between the pedal and the two manuals through simultaneous or broken chords; in the first block, a dual architectural order imposes itself, determined by one an episode in which the two manuals develop, in the manner of an invention, a two-part counterpoint over an interrupted tonic pedal (1-54), and the other by a virtuoso passage for pedal solo (55-80) subsequently replicated at a different tonal level (A. Basso, Frau Musika).
