The progression can be tonal, or non-modulating, if during its development it remains within the scope of a single key
It is said to be modulating if the initial pattern is reproduced in different keys
Ascending fourth leaps
Ascending or descending fifth leaps
Ascending stepwise motion
Ascending scale with sustained notes
Ascending chromatic scale
Descending chromatic scale
