after introducing myself, I would like some advice on the disassembly (and reassembly) of the fork pins for some of the levers in the action of a Bernhard May upright piano (serial no. 41425) from the early 50s of the last century. The action is particularly sluggish in the extreme treble register, whereas in the other registers, a simple deep cleaning was enough to restore excellent operation. The disassembly of the straps caused partial deterioration of the anchoring point covered in leather(?), but it does not seem to affect the reassembly.
I don't know how much practice you have with this kind of work. First of all, a specific extractor is needed, then a straight reamer sufficient to ream the Kasimir for the new enlarged pin. And it is truly an expert task. The pin must not be too loose, nor too tight, and it must last over time. The quality of the pins is also important. However, friction and the causes of mechanical obstruction must all be verified with appropriate equipment. Be careful because you risk reaming too much, making the forked levers (forcole) unusable. from your response I understood that even though I consider myself an advanced hobbyist (ah, modesty!!), I would risk causing damage not possessing an extractor and a reamer suitable for the pin section, not to mention the lever dynamometer. Furthermore, I was unaware of the need to replace the pin with one of a larger section. At this point, I would contact you privately.
